Field Training Program - Phase 3

The following information will act as the mandated outline for Phase 3 of the Field Training Program. The Field Training Officer (FTO) appointed to Phase 3 will use this outline to promote and teach all the policies and training corresponding to Phase 3. All the listed material should be demonstrated by the Field Training Officer to ensure all training requirements are met.

  • Florida State Statutes
    • The Field Training Officer (FTO) will explain, elaborate, and review the definitions, elements, and terminology of the Florida State Statutes (FSS) with each Probationary Explorer. While training, the FTO should provide examples and demonstrations of the statutes presented in the Probationary Workbook, including:
      • Assault
      • Baker Act
      • Battery
      • Burglary, Prima Facie
      • Child Abuse
      • Domestic Violence
      • Home Invasion
      • Robbery
      • Theft
      • Trespassing

 

  • Legal Guidelines
    • Misdemeanor Exceptions (warrantless arrests)
      • To access the offenses that qualify as misdemeanor exceptions, the FTO can utilize the Probationary Workbook, or the online resource at http://www.leg.state.fl.us/statutes/

  • Basic steps to complete at various scenarios:
    • Domestic Violence: calling for Fire Rescue, taking photographs of injuries (if any), domestic violence booklet/shelter info, LAP form, case number and report, etc.
    • Written Statements collected.
    • Burglary: property evidence, gloves on, photographs taken of damages/evidence, dusting for fingerprints, case number and report, business card, etc.

 

  • Probationary Workbook
    • The FTO will utilize the Probationary Workbook to supplement phase material and facilitate training.
